To describe the three plains in a painting, you can use:
-In the front I can see.......
-In the middle there is.....
-In the back there are.....
You can speculate on the message of the painting by using:
-I think the painting represents.....
-I think the author expresses.......
e.g. The title of the painting is The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, it belongs to the impressionist movement. It is a landscape, and the technique is oil.
The painting has cool colors mostly, and some yellow tones.
In the front I can see sort of a dried trunk of a tree, in the middle There is a picturesque little town, and in the back I can see a cloudy sky full of shiny stars.
I think the author wants to represent the beauty of night, as well as showing the calm and silence that you can experience when everyone is sleeping.
